Living Life for Today~ Bible Study Notes

February 10, 2010

  • Make a Good Choice Today

Deuteronomy 30:15-16   See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

Today.  It is a day that God has given to each of us.  Today is a blessing.  Given to us with choices to make in it.  God sets before each of us today the choice between either life and prosperity or death and destruction.

Life and prosperity seems like the obvious choice.  How?

According to this verse a choice for life and prosperity= “love God, walk in His ways, keep his commands”

It is a choice to follow God – Today.   Every Today that he gives us.

Today is an important day… the choices we make in it… pave the way of our future.  With every good choice we make Today comes a promise and a blessing from God for our future.

  • Hope in God’s Provision Today

Matthew 6:11 Give us today our daily bread.

God provides.  He gives us today and He provides for our needs in it.

Finding hope in our current circumstances leads to a day filled with gratitude.

Appreciation for the  blessings in our life today is a key to experiencing true joy.  Every Today that God gives to us is a gift.  He is mindful of the “daily bread” we need to go with the Today he gave us.

When God provides us with a Today– He is also able to provide us with what we need to live for Today.  Oh, how powerful and freeing this mindset is when we truly embrace it.

  • Faith for God’s Help Today

Exodus 14:13 …”Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today…

At times, we all feel the need to be rescued.  God’s deliverance is always complete.

I have found in my own life that although God’s deliverance is complete – sometimes it is also a process.  During that process we have to continue to stand firm against fear and rejoice in the perfect deliverance that God has for us Today.  It may not be exactly how and what we expected for the moment, but learning to see the deliverance God has already given Today is an important part of the process.

Look with eyes of faith and see God’s perfect deliverance one day at a time.

  • Listen to God Today

Hebrews 3:7-8  So, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion…

God is speaking to us.  He speaks through His Word, the Bible.  He speaks to us as a Shepard to his flock.  Jesus said He is our Shepard and we are his sheep.  His sheep know his voice and  will follow him.

The question is not- Is God speaking?   The question is- Are we listening?

Today God is speaking to us.  It is up to us to choose to listen or harden our heart as we did in rebellion.  We are all sinners and know how to be rebellious.

We can so easily dismiss the voice of God… “That couldn’t have been God telling me to do that!”  But, in our heart we know, it was God.  When we ignore him we harden our heart.  God desires to lead us into the purposes he has for each one of us.

The Holy Spirit of God is encouraging us in this scripture – Today, listen to God.  Don’t let your heart be hardened.

Don’t Take Today for Granted

Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth

Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

These scriptures remind us to neither boast or worry about tomorrow.  Live Life for Today instead.

We get ahead of ourselves with our planning and/or worrying about tomorrow – a day that has not even been given to us yet.  Vision and preparation are important.  But not at the cost of consuming our Today.

Today is a day we have already.  We don’t have to hope for it or worry about it… it’s here.  But, what are we doing with Today?  Is it lost in all our planning and /or worrying?

I think the key is to find the balance between preparation for a future vision combined with seizing the moment we are in now.

Enjoy Life TODAY!
