The BENEFITS of God ~ Bible Study Notes

January 27, 2010

Ps. 103:2 Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his BENEFITS.

  • God Forgives and Heals

Ps. 103:3  Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.

Ps. 103:10  He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

Ps. 103:12  As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

No matter how difficult things get for us in this world, we can always turn to God and His benefits for the Good News our soul needs.  God forgives and heals.  We can not completely comprehend the amazing forgiveness and healing of God because it is unlike anything else we have ever experienced.  God not only desires to bring healing to our soul through forgiveness, He wants to complete us in every way including physically.

God’s forgiveness actually removes our mistakes from our identity with him.  He has removed them from us as far as the east is from the west.  God says that He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to all our mess ups.  His forgiveness is complete and brings healing to our spirit and soul with the blessing of a fresh start.   God isn’t looking to pay us back for the mistakes we have made. He is looking to remove the stain of that mistake from our identity through His great love and forgiveness.

God forgives and heals… but the only way for these amazing benefits of God to truly touch and change our life is to receive them.  He will freely extend forgiveness and healing to all who seek these benefits from Him.  As we freely receive then we can freely give to others what we have received.

  • God Redeems

Ps. 103: 4  Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.

Ps. 103: 6  The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

God is a redeemer.  He takes the ashes of our life and replaces them with beauty.  When we find ourselves stuck in a pit, God reaches down into the pit and pulls us up and out of it.  Even when it is our own fault that we are in a pit, God rescues us.  And then, He redeems us.  He not only restores our life from the pit, He makes it far better than we could ever imagine.  He crowns us with His love and compassion.  God is the only one who can give us a crown in exchange for a pit.

God sees oppression and His heart is with those who are under it.  In our culture we don’t use the word oppressed very often, we use the word, unfair.   God is the great redeemer of unfair situations.  The key is to trust God and have patience.  One of the benefits of God is that He brings righteousness and justice into unfair situations.  God does this perfectly and in His time.  He  always handles it with  His great love and forgiveness for everyone involved.  God always has a plan of redemption.

  • God is Compassionate

Ps 103: 8  The Lord is compassionate and gracious slow to anger, abounding in love.

Ps. 103: 13  As the father of compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

We all feel misunderstood at times.  But God always understands.  He has great compassion.  His compassion is patient.  He is willing to walk it through with us.  Slow to anger, abounding in love.  He is the God of a million chances.  His compassion always hopes, always endures, is always there to help us make it through.

At the Bible study last night, when I got to this part of the study, I just began to cry…  because God’s compassion is very real to me.  Even now, as I type these words on the computer, tears are rolling down my cheeks.  There are no words to describe how truly amazing God’s love and compassion are.  No words, only the overwhelming feeling of gratitude that fills my heart.  So very thankful for the joy and hope that God’s love and compassion gives to me.  I pray that you know of God’s great compassion toward you.

  • God is Satisfying

Ps. 103:5  Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

We all have desires and dreams.  Have you ever felt like your life lacked something?  That’s desire.  When we feel that way we can go to God and ask Him to satisfy our desire with His good things.  The distractions of the world are always encouraging us to fulfill our desires with things that will just leave us feeling empty.  God is the one that truly fulfills and satisfies by giving us purpose.  Living life with purpose renews our strength.  Desire is not a bad thing, we just need to fill it with the good things of God then we will be completely satisfied.

Thanks Danise; I was really blessed by this teaching. Thank you for explaining these verses, so that I can begin to understand how God changes bad situations into good ones. I like what you said, about God redeeming the unfair treatment we have had. The key is to trust God and have patience—something few of us are good at. 🙂 Thank you for writing this blog. May the truth of your words bless many, many, many people who struggle with all the pain and sorrow in life. God Bless you abundantly. Patti
