Thank You God ~ Bible Study Notes

January 13, 2010

  • Thank God for all His gifts

James 1: 17      Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above

Matthew 7:11    If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Psalm 34:10 …But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

Romans 11: 29  For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

2 Corinthians 9:15    Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

If someone handed us present today… what would we say?  Of course, we would say,”Thank you!”   Everyday God gives us gifts!    Most of us are thankful in our heart for God’s gifts;  but we need to tell him out loud what is in our heart.  Thanking Him in our own words.  The Bible says, there is power in our words… we can use that power with our words everyday to thank God for all of his beautiful gifts to us.

According to these Bible verses; God’s gifts are GOOD and PERFECT.  God calls himself our father, who knows how to give GOOD things to us.  He says that anyone who seeks Him will not lack any GOOD THING!

The gifts and calling of God are IRREVOCABLE!  To each of us God has given special gifts and purpose.  He gives them to us unconditionally.  He doesn’t take them back based on how we behave or even if we squander them.  Please hear my heart, I am not encouraging slothful or sinful living.  But, I am saying that GOD is always FAITHFUL, even when we are not.  Even when we are messing up, God is always steadfast and on the job.  Maybe you are reading this now and you feel so far away from God.   You might be doubting God’s purpose and gifts in your life.  Be encouraged, the gifts and calling God has given to you are still yours!  Our gifts are still our gifts even when we feel far away from God.   He is always so PATIENT.  We will find that living our life surrendered to HIM allow the gifts of God flow from us more abundantly and with a more powerful anointing.  Thank GOD for his IRREVOCABLE gifts and calling in each of our lives.

God’s gifts are INDESCRIBABLE!  Indescribable GRACE, indescribable MERCY, indescribable SALVATION!  The list goes on and on… but then the special, personal blessings that God gives to us.  These are the ones that no one else might even understand.  It’s when our God, who knows us intimately sees to the depth of our soul and blesses us with those very personal and INDESCRIBABLE gifts!  Oh, how I Thank GOD for his INDESCRIBABLE gifts to me.

  • Thank God for the Victory… Before the Victory

2 Chronicles 20:21    After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:

“Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.”

1 Corinthians 15:57   But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is so easy to thank God for a victory, AFTER the victory comes.  It is a whole other powerful thing to thank Him for the victory, BEFORE the victory comes.  This scripture in 2 Chronicles is just one of the many examples of thanking God before the victory.  King Jehoshaphat was leading his army to fight a battle against tribes that were trying to take the blessings that God had given to them.  As they marched out to fight the battle, who did Jehoshaphat place “at the head of the army”?  That’s right, he appointed men to lead them into battle with THANKSGIVING!  They sang “Give THANKS to the LORD”.   The Bible story goes on to tell us that while the men were thanking God with their songs… He was fighting their enemy for them!

Battles are a part of life.   The question is, “Who or what ahead of us when we enter into a battle?”  Is it fear?  Is it doubt?  I will admit that sometimes it is for me.   Thanking God  and praising Him for the victory, BEFORE the victory is a powerful weapon against our spiritual enemy!  Our words of thanksgiving to God should always be ahead of us in every battle we face.  “THANKS be to GOD who gives us the VICTORY through our LORD Jesus!”

  • Thank God with Prayer and Praise

Philippians 4:6-7     Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 69:30    I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

God understands that we have needs. He wants us to come to him and petition him in prayer for the things that concern us.  But our prayers should always be flavored with a lot of  THANKSGIVING!  It is when we pray with thankfulness that God can take our heart filled with anxiety and turn it into a place of PEACE!  Prayer with thanksgiving is our pathway to peace.

Praise is more than something we do while we sing songs at church.  Praise is when you and I bring GLORY to GOD with our thanksgiving!  We can do that in our life style and with our words.  I have a renewed desire to tell God everyday with my own words… from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU GOD!  “Thank you God for all your amazing gifts, Thank you God for the victory, Thank you God because you are GOD!”

Wow, this is great. So much to digest. All so good and satisfying to the soul.

Thank you for your prayers. God is working. I am at peace. My loved one is doing better. But the battle is not over. Sometimes one wrong decision reaps a harvest of pain. I already see how God is working things out for His good. There’s a testimony building. A beautiful broken one, but beautiful nonetheless.

    So appreciate your support.

    Congrats on your weight loss.

    Happy New Year!!
